#19/#21 Grambling State set to take on Prairie View A&M

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University football team steps back into Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play as the Tigers face off against Prairie View A&M in the 94th Annual Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic on Saturday. Kickoff from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas is set for 4:00 p.m.
 
Grambling State will broadcast the game on Grambling State Sports Radio Network. The game can be heard in Ruston (KPCH 99.3 FM) and in Monroe (KJMG 97.3FM). The Tigers' broadcast crew of Santoria Black, Ossie Clark, Nick Harrison and Leon Thomas will call all of the action.
 
Grambling State (4-1 overall, 1-0 SWAC) enters Saturday's game with a four-game winning streak, including a 31-20 victory last weekend in the 20th Annual Chicago Football Classic. Prairie View A&M (2-2, 2-0) comes into the contest off two straight SWAC victories, including a 38-9 rout of Jackson State last week.
 
"I think as long as we continue to play mistake-free football, we'll have a good shot," Grambling State head coach Broderick Fobbs said. "It's definitely their (Prairie View A&M) Superbowl. We have to come out be ready to play."
 
 
Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic
* The first game was played on Oct. 19, 1925 between Wiley College and Langston University.
* The game is played on a neutral site at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park, Dallas, Texas during the State Fair of Texas.
* Grambling State is 26-6 in the State Fair Classic and have met Prairie View A&M every year since 1992.
* Prior to 1992, the Tigers played Elizabeth City State (1991) and North Carolina A&T State (1992).
* Grambling State and Prairie View A&M have played 31 times in the State Fair Classic with the Tigers holding a 25-5 record.
 
What to Watch For
* Grambling State is seeking its fifth consecutive win after starting the season with a loss at Tulane.
* GSU is looking to avoid a loss in the Cotton Bowl, which hasn't occurred since the 2013 season when the Tigers lost to the Panthers 31-3.
* Prairie View A&M started the year with losses to Sam Houston State and Nicholls, but has reeled off SWAC victories over Alabama State and Jackson State.
 
Grambling State-Prairie View A&M Connections
* Grambling State leads the series, 50-17-1, including winning the last three.
* Tigers head coach Broderick Fobbs is 3-0 against Prairie View A&M.
* Grambling State won the last matchup, 36-16, in 2016.
* Separated by 327 miles, this will be the 69th meeting between the two schools.

* Grambling State is ranked No. 19 in the FCS Coaches Poll, No. 21 in the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll, No. 2 in the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Poll and No. 1 in the SBN Black College Football Poll.
* The Tigers are ranked No.1 in the SWAC in 14 different categories, including team sacks, defensive touchdowns (fifth nationally) and scoring defense.
 
Inside the Numbers
* Despite missing the past few weeks, Martez Carter continues to be ranked first in the SWAC in rushing touchdowns.
* De'Arius Christmas is third in the conference in tackles for loss.
* De'Aumante Johnson ranks No. 1 in the conference (third nationally) in interceptions per game.
* Marc Orozco leads the SWAC in field goal percentage, field goals per game and scoring.
 
 
Awards and Accolades
* Devante Kincade was selected the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week. Kincade threw for 278 yards on 19 of 31 passing and three touchdowns in the Tigers' victory over Clark Atlanta. Kincade was also named the Chicago Football Classic Offensive Most Valuable Player.
* Ja'Terious Pouncy was selected the Chicago Football Classic Defensive Most Valuable Player.

* General admission tickets (which includes entry into the State Fair of Texas) are $28.
* Students may purchase tickets with a valid student ID for $20. There is no limit of how many tickets that students can purchase.
* Tickets can be purchased at the GSU Ticket Office, from 7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7:30 a.m.- 11 a.m. Friday.
