BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Grambling State University volleyball team will open up Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play at 1:30 p.m. on Friday as the Lady Tigers take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Williams Assembly Center on the campus of Jackson State University.

Grambling State (16-22) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (12-19) split the season series with each team winning on the road. The Lady Tigers rallied to pick up a five-set victory over the Lady Golden Lions on Oct. 26, but fell to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in three sets on Nov. 9.

Chasity Nicks paces the GSU offense with 369 kills in 1,092 attempts (2.64/set), while
Kevreion Ward, who was named to the All-SWAC First Team, is second on the team with 367 kills in 995 attempts (2.58/set).
L'Muriell Thrower and
Diemend Richardson have combined for 1,171 of the Lady Tigers' 1,379 assists. Defensively,
Erineka Mollere, who was selected to the All-SWAC Second Team, has tallied 636 digs and averages 4.45 per set.

The top eight teams based on SWAC league-play records qualified for the tournament and the format will be single-elimination.

This marks the 29th year schools will participate in the conference tournament, with the winner receiving the SWAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament.

The championship match on Sunday, Nov. 19 will be broadcasted live on ESPN3 at 3 p.m. and fans can follow live stats for all tournament matches.
