MEMPHIS, Tenn. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team could not recover from a cold-shooting day in a 57-48 loss to Memphis at Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Thursday afternoon.

Grambling State (3-7) shot 30 percent (15-of-50), including a 2-for-16 stretch in the second quarter.

Jazmine Torian paced the Grambling State offense with 11 points, on 4-of-9 shooting, and three rebounds.
Ariel Williams added nine points, two steals and one assist, while
Shakyla Hill added eight rebounds, six assists, four steals and two points.

Cheyenne Creighton led Memphis (5-8) with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jada Stinson and Alana Davis each recorded 10 points.

Turning Point
Grambling State led 8-6 after a
Deja McKinney 3-pointer with 5:16 remaining in the opening quarter and took an 11-8 advantage into the second.

Memphis took advantage of Grambling State's cold shooting and used an 8-0 run, capped by a Cheyenne Creighton layup to take a 16-11 lead with 4:13 left in the first half and held a 21-17 advantage at the break.

Grambling State trailed 33-26 after an Alana Davis layup with 4:44 left in the third, but GSU got a 3-pointer by
Jazmine Torian to cut the deficit to 33-29 with 4:10 remaining. Memphis continued to push the advance and took a 37-31 lead into the final quarter.

Memphis extended the advantage to 43-33 with 7:34 remaining in the fourth on a bucket by Creighton, but Grambling State was able to cut the margin to 43-39 after an
Ariel Williams free throw with 5:46 left.

Memphis quickly answered and took a 50-40 advantage after a pair of free throws by Taylor Barnes, but Grambling State was able to trim the deficit to 53-47 after a 3-pointer by
Laneisha Jeans with 2:35 left. However, that would be as close as Grambling State would get.

* Grambling State shot 30 percent (15-of-50) from the field and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the free-throw line.
* Memphis was 22-of-51 (43.1 percent) shooting and 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) from the charity stripe.
