NORMAN, Okla. (Baseball) – The Grambling State University Tiger baseball team traveled to face off against the University of Oklahoma in a midweek match up. The Tigers rallied but were overcome by the Sooners and fell 11-2.
With the loss, Grambling evens out at 2-2 on the season. Oklahoma improves its overall record to 3-1.
The game was even until the Sooners started a scoring barrage in the third inning. OU scored a run in the third inning, three runs in the fourth inning, and three runs in the fourth inning to make the score 7-0.
The G-Men struck back with two runs in the seventh inning. The first run came as
Daniel Barnett hit a home run into left field, 7-1.
Tray Bell proved his quickness as he stole home for the Tigers second run, 7-2. Bell singled to right center field to reach first base, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and moved to third base when Alexander Felder singled to left field.
Oklahoma put down the rally and sealed the game in the eighth inning as they scored four unanswered runs, 11-2.
Elijah Saunders (0-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers with 4.1 innings pitched for eight hits, six earned runs, three walks and three strike outs.
Devon Perez (1-0) picked up the win for the Sooners with five innings pitched for three hits, two earned runs, and eight strike outs.
The G-Men will close the two game series with OU on Wednesday, Feb. 22. First pitch for the game will be at 3 p.m.
