LORMAN, Miss. (Men's basketball) – The Grambling State University Tiger basketball team took the show on the road to Alcorn State University on Monday night. The Tigers were aggressive in play but couldn't come away with the win. Grambling was defeated by the Braves with a score of 75-65.
With the loss, Grambling drops to 10-14, overall, and 5-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Alcorn improves to 11-11 and 8-3 in conference play.
Throughout the game, the Tigers exchanged baskets with the Braves and stayed on the hunt. Grambling kept the contest close but couldn't hang in the game.
GSU finished the night with four players in double figures for points. Avery Ugba led the G-Men with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ugba was followed by
Remond Brown with 16 points,
Ervin Mitchell with 15 points, and
Drake Wilks with 10 points.
Chase Cormier was the rebound leader of the night with five boards. Brown showed his defensive prowess with the lone block for Grambling.
GSU was 46 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from the arc and 72.2 percent from the free throw line.
A.J. Mosby, Denzel Dulin, and DeAndre Davis each recorded 14 points for the Braves. Marquis Vance was the rebound leader with eight boards. Mosby was the initiator for Alcorn with nine assists.
ASU was 57.4 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three point range, and 42.9 percent from the stripe.
Grambling will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
