NEW ORLEANS, La. (Softball) – The Grambling State University softball team took on the Mississippi Valley State University in the Urban League Showcase on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Tigers went winless against the Devilettes.
Game One
In game one, GSU went scoreless and was defeated by MVSU 9-0 in five innings. The Lady Tigers managed two hits in the short game and one error.
Kenyshae Beasley and
Tia Coleman accounted for one hit each.
The Devilettes were led by Holly Brown as she went 2-of-3 for two runs and one run batted in. Jordan Brown contributed three runs batted in.
Caitlin McDowell (5-8) suffered the loss for Grambling with five inning pitched for nine hits, six earned runs, five walks and two strike outs.
Rebekah Clinton picks up the win for Mississippi Valley with three innings pitched for one hit and one strike out.
Game Two
The Lady Tigers dropped the game, 10-1, in five innings.
To begin game two, GSU came out swinging and scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.
Allye Hartley singled to third base to drive in Beasley, 1-0. Beasley singled to reach first base, moved to second base on
Mercedes Williams' bunt, and stole third base.
Errors and defensive miscues helped MVSU score two runs in the top of the second inning and eight runs in the top of the third inning, 10-1.
Alexus Brown picked up the loss for GSU with five innings pitched for five hits, five earned runs, six walks, and three strike outs.
Chandler Ellis snaps up the win for the Devilettes with three innings pitched for three hits, one earned run, and three strike outs.
???????Grambling will play their first home doubleheader on Tuesday, March 14 against Centenary College on Lady Tiger field. Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
