Lady Tigers Clinch Share of SWAC Regular Season Title, Host MVSU in SWAC Quarterfinal

Grambling will host Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Southwester Athletic Conference Tournament.

GRAMBLING, La. (Women's Basketball)-- A brief hiccup ended the Grambling State University Lady Tigers 10-game winning streak but refocused Grambling to conquer the Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs, 87-57, on Senior Day Saturday at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Center.

Grambling State (16-13, 14-4 SWAC) left no doubt they were the better team coasting to a 23-point halftime advantage. The Lady Tigers ultimately won by 30 points and now share part of the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season title. This is the first time that GSU has had their hand on a share of the regular season title since the 1999-2000 seasons.

After a bad rebounding night against Alabama State in a loss, the Lady Tigers responded with maximum effort on the boards. At halftime, Grambling State owned the rebound battle grabbing 28 to Alabama A&M's 7.  Shakyla Hill was a rebounding machine as she snapped 11 boards. Grambling State controlled the glass and finished with 53 rebounds to 22.

???????Grambling State muzzled the Lady Bulldogs' (2-25, 0-18 SWAC) bark in the second quarter with a 26-7 run. During the one sided second quarter Grambling State shot 60 percent from the field making 12-of-20 attempts. Senior John'ea Thompson stepped out on Senior day leading GSU with 17 points. Senior Chantiara Lewis notched 14 points and senior Kiana Jones added 10 points. Monisha Neal scored 12 points and Hill finished with nine.

Lauren McKee led Alabama A&M with 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists. McKee was followed by Ebony Johnson with 10 points.
