Box Score GRAMBLING, La. – The Grambling State University baseball team completed the series sweep of Southern University with a 14-8 win on Saturday afternoon at R.W.E. Jones Park.
The come-from-behind win improves Grambling's record to 14-21 overall and 10-8 in the SWAC. Southern falls to 11-20 and 7-10 in conference play.
The Jaguars started the game hot, picking up four runs on a grand slam by Robinson Mateo in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
Grambling answered in the third inning and led 5-4 after the fourth inning. Southern took a momentary lead after scoring twice in the top of the fifth, but the Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the frame and held on to the lead for the rest of the game.
Raul Baduel earned his first win of the season after pitching one and one-third innings in relief. He gave up two hits and struck out one batter. Reliever
Daniel Beizer tossed 4.1 innings and allowed two runs and three hits, while striking out four batters.
Tray Bell went 3-for-3 with two RBI, a run and a walk for Grambling.
Marshawn Taylor was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two walks, while
Kristian Franklin was 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they host University of Louisiana Monroe at 6 p.m.
