Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – After trailing 4-3 at the end of the seventh inning, the Alabama State baseball team scored nine runs in the final two innings to defeat Grambling State 12-4 at Wesley Barrow Stadium on Friday evening.
Grambling (15-23) rallied from being down 1-0 after three frames to go up 4-3.
Tray Bell's RBI single in the fourth got the Tigers on the board, then an RBI single by
Kristian Franklin in the sixth and a two-RBI double by reigning SWAC Player of the Week
Daniel Barnett gave Grambling a one-run lead at the end of seven innings.
But defensive miscues by the Tigers in the final two innings allowed ASU (19-20) to put the game out of reach.
Austin Bizzle picked up the win for ASU after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Daniel Beizer fell to 4-5 on the season with the loss. He allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) in two relief innings.
Tanner Raiburn started for GSU, pitching six innings and giving up three hits and two earned runs, while striking out four batters.
Marshawn Taylor led the Tiger offense, going 3-for-5 and scoring twice. Barnett and
Nick Wheeler tallied two hits apiece.
Game 2 of the three-game series starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission for all games is free.
