Taylor, Drain Help Grambling to DH Sweep of Texas Southern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAMBLING, La. – Redshirt junior Marshawn Taylor went a combined 5-for7 with five RBI, while senior Wesley Drain was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI in game 2 to help the Grambling State baseball team to a 7-1, 13-3 doubleheader sweep of Texas Southern on Friday afternoon at R.W.E. Jones Park.
 
GSU improves to 19-25 overall and 12-8 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, while Texas Southern falls to 15-27 and 13-9.
 
In game 1, Grambling scored first on a double to left field by Nick Wheeler in the bottom of the second inning. Wheeler drove in another run in the fourth, and was followed by Taylor whose double to right field scored Wheeler, Ace Felder and Johan Mojica, putting GSU up 5-0.
 
Grambling led 7-0 by the end of the fifth inning. TSU picked up its only run of the game in the top of the sixth.
 
Tanner Raiburn earned his fourth win of the season after six innings of work. He gave up four hits and one unearned run while striking out four batters.
 
GSU came out swinging in the second game, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead after the first two innings.
 
TSU managed one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but could not generate any more runs for the remainder of the game.
 
Rafael Ramirez's double to center field in the bottom of the eighth that scored Kristian Franklin and Drain ended the game early, giving GSU its second win of the day. Ramirez went 2-for-5 with four RBI in game 2.
 
Isaac O'Bear allowed six hits and three earned runs in seven innings for Grambling. He evened his record at 4-4 with the win.
 
The teams conclude the series with a single game at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Grambling's seven seniors (Drain, O'Bear, Raiburn, Mojica, Daniel Barnett, Tray Bell and Marlon Pruitt) will be recognized in the Senior Night Ceremony prior to the start of the game.
