Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Prairie View A&M baseball team eliminated Grambling State from the 2017 SWAC Baseball Tournament with an 8-6 win on Thursday afternoon at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, posting a run in the bottom of the first and two in the second.
Grambling (22-30) got on the board in the third inning on
Kristian Franklin's RBI single through the left side that scored
Marshawn Taylor. The Tigers tacked on one more run in the fourth when
Nick Wheeler scored on Taylor's double to left field.
GSU took a momentary lead in the sixth on
Daniel Barnett's three-RBI double that put the Tigers up 5-3. But Prairie View (19-36) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 8-5. Grambling managed just one more run in the top of the eighth and did not score the rest of the way.
Taylor went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
Tray Bell was 3-for-4, while Barnett had two hits in five at-bats and drove in three runs.
Starting pitcher
Tanner Raiburn suffered the loss after pitching five and two-third innings and allowing nine hits and eight runs (seven earned) while striking out two batters.
