Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Tex. – The Grambling State baseball team defeated Prairie view 14-1 in seven innings on Sunday afternoon to complete the series sweep of the Panthers.
The Tigers (22-27, 15-9 SWAC) took control of the game in the top of the fifth inning, posting three runs in the frame.
Ace Felder scored on
Wesley Drain's RBI single to left field to get GSU on the board. Drain then scored on a throwing error by Prairie View's catcher, and
Daniel Barnett scored when Rafael Ramirez was walked with the bases loaded.
GSU tacked on two more runs in the sixth and then exploded for nine runs in the top of the seventh. Tiger pitcher
Raul Baduel had a one-hit shutout heading into the bottom of the seventh but Prairie View (18-33, 11-13 SWAC) managed to score a run before the end of the inning to avoid the shutout.
Baduel tossed a complete game and gave up three hits and one earned run.
Ramirez was 2-for-4 with two runs and six RBI. He hit an RBI triple and a grand slam in the seventh inning.
Nick Wheeler finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Felder was 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Grambling also got hits from
Marshawn Taylor (two), Drain,
Tray Bell and
Kristian Franklin.
GSU plays its final regular-season game on Wednesday when the Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to take on the University of Alabama. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
