Lady Tigers post third straight shutout win

GRAMBLING, La. | Kaylee Holt and Kailey Pena notched first-half goals as the Grambling State University women's soccer team earned its third straight shutout victory with a 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) win over Prairie View A&M on Friday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex.
 
Grambling State (8-7 overall, 5-1 SWAC) entered the day in third place based on points behind Texas Southern and Howard in the race for the conference regular-season crown. The Lady Tigers will face off against Texas Southern on Sunday in a matchup of two of the top teams in the SWAC.
 
It didn't take long for Grambling State to break the early 0-0 tie as Holt converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead.
 
Just four minutes later, Grambling State doubled the scoreline as Sarah Dunbar assisted on Pena's goal to extend the margin to 2-0 in the 12th minute.
 
Lady Tigers goalkeeper Rita Siaha made one save in the opening frame and another in the second half as Grambling State won its third consecutive game and have not conceded a goal in 300 minutes.
 
Inside the Numbers
> Rita Siaha recorded two saves in 90 minutes in goal
> Quinn Josiah did not record a save for the Lady Panthers
> Grambling State finished with six shots, including four in the opening half
> Prairie View A&M tallied seven shots, with three coming in the second half

Grambling State concludes the home portion of its schedule with a 1 p.m. match against Texas Southern in a key SWAC contest at the GSU Soccer Complex. Prior to Sunday's match, Grambling State will honor its seven seniors as part of Senior Day.
