HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Kaylee Holt's goal in the 53rd minute was the different as the Grambling State University women's soccer team blanked Alabama A&M, 1-0, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match for the fourth consecutive shutout on Friday afternoon.
"This trip is a tough trip against two gritty teams (Alabama A&M and Alabama State)," Grambling State head coach
Justin Wagar said. "I'm happy we came away with a win today. We made some adjustments at half and they helped us to organize better and settle down."
Grambling State (10-7 overall, 7-1 SWAC – 21 points) has four straight shutout victories and has not conceded a goal in 480 minutes. The last time Grambling State surrendered a goal was in the 60th minute of a 1-0 loss to Howard on Sept. 28. The Lady Tigers entered the day one point back from conference leader Howard. The Bison blanked Jackson State, 4-0, and remained one point ahead (22 points).
After a scoreless first half,
Alyssa Ozuna and
Brittany Terry contributed with the lone goal. Ozuna's short ball set up the long cross from Terry and Holt headed home the game-winner to give the Lady Tigers the victory.
Defensively,
Rita Siaha earned her third consecutive shutout. She faced six shots, including saving a one-on-out chance late in the second half. Siaha has not surrendered a goal in the last 270 minutes.
