Southern spoils Grambling State’s home opener

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University volleyball team spent the first 21 matches on the road, but on Sunday, the Lady Tigers celebrated their home opener. However, Southern spoiled the Lady Tigers' big day with a 3-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
 
Southern (4-13 overall, 3-5 SWAC) swept the match with scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-12.
 
Chasity Nicks paced the Grambling State offense with 12 kills, while L'Muriell Thrower tallied 15 assists. Erineka Mollere led the defense with 10 digs.
 
Shelby Jolly and Jada Carter led Southern with nine kills each. Princess Stark and Vaterra Calais dished out 18 and 12 assists, respectively. Defensively, Bailey Jefferson recorded 11 digs.
 
Inside the Numbers
> Grambling State (5-17, 3-5) finished with 30 kills, 27 errors, 103 attacks (.029 hitting percentage)
> Southern hit .302 for the match (37 kills, 11 errors, 86 attacks)
