Lady Tigers open SWAC Tourney play against Lady Jaguars

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University volleyball team is set for Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament play, as the Lady Tigers will open against Southern at 4 p.m. on Friday at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Miss.
 
The Lady Tigers (11-23) is the number six seed and reached the tournament on the final day of the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Southern is the third seed in the tournament and has won six straight.
 
In the other quarterfinal matchups, Alabama A&M is the top seed and with face No. 8 Alcorn State at 11 a.m. Jackson State, the four seed, will meet Texas Southern, the five seed, at 6:30 p.m. and Alabama State, the second seed, will take on the seventh seed, Prairie View A&M, at 6:30 p.m.
 
The semifinals will begin on Saturday, with all matches streamed live on the SWAC Digital Network. The winner of the Alabama A&M/Alcorn State match will face either Jackson State or Texas Southern at 2 p.m., while the other semifinal will pit the winner of Southern/Grambling State against Alabama State/Prairie View A&M.
 
The SWAC Championship match will be played on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m., with the match begin broadcasted on ESPNU at 9 p.m.
 
Grambling State is seeking its first SWAC Volleyball Tournament championship since 1997. The Lady Tigers won three straight SWAC Tourney crowns from 1995-1997 and were SWAC Tourney runners-up from 2003-2005.
