TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Jazmin Boyd scored 14 of her team-high 17 points in the first half, but it wasn't enough to propel the Grambling State University women's basketball team in a 73-55 loss to Alabama on Friday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum.

Grambling State (1-4) led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 33-31 at the half. Alabama (4-1) outscored Grambling State in the third, 20-10, to take control of the game with a 53-41 advantage.

Boyd finished the day with 17 points, on 4-of-9 shooting and was 7-of-8 at the foul line. She added four rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
Shakyla Hill chipped in with 15 points, seven boards, four steals and three assists.

Jasmine Walker paced the Crimson Tide with 24 points, on 10-of-15 shooting, nine boards and three assists. Ariyah Copeland registered a double-double of 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Cierra Johnson tallied 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.
Turning Point
Grambling State led 19-14 at end of one period and trailed 33-31 at the half. However, Alabama put the game away by outscoring the Lady Tigers in the third quarter, 20-10.

Grambling State cut the deficit to 35-34 after a layup by
Shakyla Hill with 8:08 left in the third, but Alabama used a 14-3 run over the next five minutes, capped by a Jasmine Walker jumper, to extend the advantage to 49-37 with just over three minutes remaining in the period.

The Lady Tigers trimmed the margin to nine moments later, but could not get any closer.

> Grambling State was 19-of-58 (32.8 percent) shooting and 14-of-20 (70.0 percent) from the charity stripe
