Puerto Rico - Day 4 Recap

SAN JUAN, Puerto | The Grambling State University women's basketball team will compete in the Puerto Rico Classic, held Dec. 19, 20, 21 at Mario Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The Lady Tigers officially arrived in Puerto Rico on Monday and each day during the team's journey, Grambling State Sports Information Director Brian Howard will give the day's recap, including insight on upcoming events and games. 

Day 4 Recap (Final Recap)
> The Lady Tigers received a wake-up call at 7 a.m. and met in the main level of the Intercontinental San Juan Hotel for morning shootaround
> The team departed from shootaround and arrived back at the hotel at 8:30 a.m.
> The Lady Tigers met at 10:15 a.m. in the lower level of the Intercontinental San Juan Hotel for breakfast
> The team departed at 12:30 p.m. for Mario Morales Coliseum for the second game of the Puerto Rico Classic against Loyola Marymount
> At 2:30 p.m. (atlantic standard time), Grambling State and Loyola Marymount tipped off to begin the Puerto Rico Classic
> Grambling State controlled most of the first half and took a 30-27 lead into the half
> The Lady Tigers, much like they did against Indiana on Thursday, built a 14-point second-half lead, but watched it disappear late in the fourth quarter
> Grambling State trailed, 61-60, with 10 seconds left, but Shakyla Hill's runner in the lane hit the front iron and was grabbed by Jasmine Forte
> Jasmine Forte scored on the putback layup and was fouled to give the Lady Tigers a 62-61 advantage with 2,7 seconds left
> Jasmine Forte missed the free throw and Loyola Marymount called timeout
> The Lions had a 3-point attempt at the buzzer that hit the front iron and bounced off to give Grambling State its second consecutive victory
> Grambling State went 2-1 in the Puerto Rico Classic and finished tied at the top with Indiana (2-1) and South Dakota (2-1). Loyola Marymount went winless in the tournament (0-3)

> After the big win, the team departed the venue and spent dinner at the Cheesecake Factory
> After dinner, the team travelled back to the hotel to relax and pack for tomorrow's trip back home
> The day ended with curfew and lights out at 12:30 a.m.
> Lady Tigers head coach Freddie Murray, his coaching staff and the team want to thank everyone for following this journey and for the outpouring of support
> The team will depart Puerto Rico on Saturday at 1 p.m. en route to New Orleans, Louisiana
