GRAMBLING, La.| The Grambling State University softball team blanked Jarvis Christian, 14-0, in the opener of a doubleheader on Monday, but dropped a 5-3 decision in the second game as the Lady Tigers split the twinbill at the GSU Softball Complex.
Game 1 (14-0 win)
Grambling State (1-5) got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first and took control of the game in the bottom of the frame by scoring seven runs on six hits to grab a 7-0 lead.
Kenyshae Beasley singled up the middle to begin the inning and advanced to second when
Mercedes Williams drew a walk.
Hailey Haynes followed with a base hit to left center to load the bases.
Morgan Adams was hit by a pitch to bring in Beasley and with one down,
Allye Hartley reached on a fielder's choice as Williams scored.
Kendalyn Arceneaux continued the big inning with a single down the left field line as Haynes scored.
Tayler Lenz-Selvera reached on an infield hit to load the bases for the second time in the frame.
Monique Smith singled up the middle to plate Hartley and Beasley, batting for the second time in the inning, reached on a fielder's choice as Arceneaux scored. Williams smacked in the final two runs with a single to right center to score Lenz-Selvera and Smith.
The Lady Tigers plated four more runs in the third and three in the fourth to cruise to a 14-0 victory.
GAME 2 (5-2 loss)
Jarvis Christian (2-2) took advantage of one error in the second inning and scored three runs on two hits to grab a 3-0 lead.
Grambling State cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the third.
With one down in the inning,
Deshuna McDaniel reached on a bunt single and advanced all the way to third on a failed pickoff attempt and an error. Smith walked and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. After a strikeout, Williams brought McDaniel and Smith in to score on a single to left.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up a run in the fifth and sixth to take a 5-2 lead into the seventh.
Grambling State scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at the plate, but couldn't push across the runs.

* In the opener, Grambling State finished with 14 runs on 12 hits and left four on base.

Monique Smith went 3-for-3, with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Allye Hartley each had two hits.

* Victoria Navarro took the loss as she gave up 14 runs on 12 hits, with three walks and one strikeout.

Deshuna McDaniel led the way by going 2-for-3, with one RBI and one run scored.

* The Lady Tigers finished the second game with four hits and left three on base.

D'Maria Matthews (0-3) took the loss in surrendering five runs (three earned) on seven hits, with a pair of walks and four strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
* Crystal Fagnana up three runs on four hits, with seven strikeouts and two walks in the complete-game victory.
* Jacklynn Flores paced Jarvis Christian at the plate with two hits and scored one run.
* Jarvis Christian finished with five runs and left seven on base.

* Grambling State bounced back from dropping four games at the ULM Mardi Gras Classic to begin the season.
* The Lady Tigers went 4-1 last season against Jarvis Christian, with their only loss coming on Feb. 15 (9-0).

Grambling State will travel to Longview, Texas on Tuesday to play Centenary at 3 p.m., followed by a contest against Letourneau at 5 p.m.
