Lady Tigers to host UAPB and MVSU

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team will look to improve in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday (Senior Day) and conclude the home portion part of its schedule on Monday, Feb. 27 versus Mississippi Valley State.
 
Tip-off for Saturday's game at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center is set for 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
 
Grambling State (13-12 overall, 10-4 SWAC) stepped back into the win column after a 93-89 overtime victory to Jackson State on Saturday (Feb. 17).
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-19, 4-11) registered a 61-59 win over Texas Southern on Monday and Mississippi Valley State (2-25, 2-13) is seeking a conference win after losing to Southern, Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M.
 
ABOUT ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff is averaging 55.1 points per game, while its opponents are averaging 68.7 points.

  • Shakyla Hill was named the United States Sports Academy's Female of the Month for January.
 
PRESEASON POLL
  • Grambling State was picked to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll as voted on by conference head coaches and sports information directors. GSU guard Shakyla Hill was selected the SWAC Preseason Player of the Year.
 
GRAMBLING STATE BASKETBALL HISTORY
  • Grambling State became the only SWAC school to advance in a postseason tournament as the GSU defeated Ole Miss, 78-75, in the first round of the WNIT last season.
  • Grambling State reached the SWAC Championship game last season, but fell to Texas Southern, 70-66.

  • Monisha Neal is the lone Lady Tiger who will be honored during Saturday's game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
 
UP NEXT
After the Lady Tigers' final two home games, Grambling State will travel to Alabama to take on Alabama A&M on Thursday, March 1, followed by a contest against Alabama State (March 3).
