DENTON, Texas | The Grambling State University softball team opened play at the Schutt Invitational, hosted by University of North Texas, with a pair of losses, falling 10-0 to Creighton in five innings and 3-1 to North Texas on Saturday night.
In the opener against Creighton, the Bluejays plated three runs in the first, five in the second and two more in the third before cruising to the 10-0 win.
Kenyshae Beasley and
Tia Coleman each went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Grambling State.
D'Maria Matthews (0-4) took the loss as she surrendered 10 runs on 11 hits, walked three and struck out one.
In the nightcap, North Texas (5-4) struck for one run in the fourth and two in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead into the seventh.
Grambling State (1-8) rallied with one run as Coleman homered to lead off the top of the seventh, but the Lady Tigers could not get any closer.
Coleman and
Allye Hartley each had one hit to pace the Grambling State offense.
Caitlin McDowell (1-3) took the loss in six innings of work. She gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Up Next
Grambling State wraps up play at the Schutt Invitational on Sunday. The Lady Tigers will meet Creighton at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest against North Texas.
