MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Grambling State University women's tennis team defeated Alabama A&M on the opening day of action of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) East Round-Up on Friday, but the Lady Tigers were unsuccessful during play Saturday, falling to Jackson State and Alabama State.

Grambling State (4-11 overall, 3-5 SWAC) got play started on Friday at Lagoon Park Tennis Center with a 4-1 victory over Alabama A&M.

The Lady Tigers took the doubles point as Juliia Popova and
Danna Galeano defeated Nthabiseng Mashego and Ayana Regil, 6-3 and
Keren Muswere and Tanya Magunje topped Shrarre Smith and Beatriz Gutierrez, 6-4.

In singles play, Popova defeated Virag Hollos, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, while Muswere blanked Smith, 6-0, 6-0. Galeano picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mashego as Grambling State earned a 4-1 win.

On Saturday, Grambling State began the day against Jackson State, with JSU earning a 4-1 win.

JSU won the doubles point and picked up the victory by claiming wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6.

Galeano earned the lone Grambling State point at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Daria Buturina.

Against Alabama State, the Lady Hornets captured the doubles point, and got wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 to pick up the victory.
On Sunday, the Lady Tigers dropped a 4-0 decision to Prairie View A&M to conclude play at the SWACÂ East Round-up.

Grambling State will take a week off before playing host to Northwestern State on Tuesday, March 27. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
