KENNESAW, Ga. | The Grambling State University baseball team surrendered 25 hits as Kennesaw State picked up a 23-6 victory on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
Kennesaw State (11-12) raced out to a 17-0 lead through three innings as the Owls plated three runs in the first inning, four in the second and exploded for 10 runs in the third. KSU added to the advantage with one run in the fourth, before Grambling State (12-12) plated one run in the fifth.
With one down in the fifth,
Cameron Shannon belted a solo homer to cut the deficit to 18-1, but the Owls answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 20-1 advantage.
Grambling State got those two runs back in the eighth as
Marshawn Taylor singled to right with one out and came in to score when
Richard Ortiz homered to left.
The Owls tacked on three runs in the eighth to take a 23-3 lead and Grambling State tried to rally in the ninth, but came away with three runs.
Inside The Numbers
* Grambling State scored six runs on 12 hits, committed six errors and stranded six on base.

Marshawn Taylor led the way offensively by going 3-for-5, with one RBI and one run scored.

D'Quan Matthews went 2-for-4, with one run scored, while
Cameron Shannon was 2-for-4, with one RBI and one run scored.

Richard Ortiz, Rafael Ramirez,
Ace Felder,
Garrett Smith and
Bo Fletcher each recorded one hit.
* Kerry Boykins Jr. (2-2) took the loss on the rubber for the Tigers in three innings of work. He gave up 17 runs (eight earned) on 16 hits, with one walk.

Daniel Beizer and
Daniel Wilson worked five innings combined in relief.
* Kennesaw State finished the game with 23 runs on 25 hits and left six on base.
* Griffin Helms (2-for-3) and Daniel Seres (3-for-6) drove in three runs each.
* Jake Franklin, Terence Norman and Garrett Hodges plated two RBIs apiece.
* Brooks Buckler (2-0) earned the win as he surrendered just one run on six hits, with five strikeouts in five innings pitched.
* Taylor Wilkes, Deviner McCray, Mayhall, Jared Staples and Max Ryan worked in relief.
