Making a statement

Lady Tigers roll to biggest win since 2007

GRAMBLING, La. | Kailey Pena recorded her second-consecutive hat trick as the Grambling State University women's soccer team made a statement on Friday night with a 7-0 victory over Alcorn State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game at the GSU Soccer Complex.
 
The Lady Tigers (4-6 overall, 1-0 SWAC), which play their third straight shortened game due to darkness,  notched their biggest win since 2007 when Grambling State defeated Alabama State, 13-0, on Oct. 21.
 
Pena, who registered a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana on Sunday, set a school record for fastest goal as she scored just 10 second into the game to give Grambling State a 1-0 lead.
 
The Lady Tigers doubled the advantage in the 17th minute when Kaylee Holt assisted on Pena's goal to push the margin to 2-0 and Jasmine Smith assisted on Pena's final goal in the 20th minute to extend the advantage to 3-0.
 
Kiawna Mounts notched an unassisted goal in the 24th minute and Alyssa Ozuna rounded out the first-half scoring in the 30th minute on an unassisted goal to give the Lady Tigers a comfortable 5-0 lead.
 
Holt continued the scoring just three minutes after the break and Haylee O'Leary capped the goal scoring on an assist my Smith in the 77th minute.
 
Turning Point
Grambling State dominated from start to finish and it all began just 10 seconds into the game.
 
Pena, who now has six goals in the past two games, gave the Lady Tigers a quick 1-0 lead, She added two more goals in the next 20 minutes to secure the big lead.

> Hanna Johnson recorded one save for the Lady Tigers in 45 minutes of work
> Rita Siaha added one save in the second half
> Giselle Rojas registered a pair of saves for the Lady Braves (0-6, 0-1)
