RUSTON, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team played the first 45 minutes strong, but gave up two quick goals to begin the second half as Louisiana Tech picked up a 3-0 victory on Thursday night at Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
"I am proud of the way our team battled tonight," Grambling State head coach
Justin Wagar said. "It was an exciting game to watch. Unfortunately we had a lapse of concentration to start the second half and gave up two goals in the first three minutes of the half. We're still aiming to be able to play a full 90 minutes strong as a team, we were close tonight. We were happy that both teams got to get their benches in the final 10 minutes of play and get a number of players experience in a competitive setting. We're hoping to continue to learn and progress as we near the start of conference play in a few weeks."
After a scoreless first 45 minutes down, Louisiana Tech (7-1) scored twice within a minute and a half to take control of the game.
Kaylee Zettler got the ball on the right wing and her cross found Mylene Roy-Ouellet in the penalty area for the first goal of the night in the 47th minute. Zettler found the back of the net, off an assist by Roy-Ouellet, in the 48th minute to give the Lady Techsters a 2-0 advantage.
Louisiana Tech added an insurance goal in the 90th minute when Alexandra Augustyn assisted on Stella Li's goal.
Turning Point
Grambling State (2-5) had one opportunity in the first 45 minutes and could not capitalize. Louisiana Tech was able to place seven shots on frame, but came away empty handed.
Louisiana Tech came out of the break strong and walked away with two goals, thanks in part to Zettler and Roy-Ouelett. The Lady Techsters didn't look back over the final 43 minutes of play in earning the non-conference win.
