HAMMOND, La.l Devante Jackson scored a career-high of 26 points as he led the Grambling State University men's basketball team in a 81-70 victory over Southeastern Louisiana University on Wednesday night.
Jackson, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., also tallied seven rebounds and two assists.
Anthony Gaston Jr. recorded 17 points along with six rebounds and
Prince Moss registered seven points and four boards.
Ty Brewer led the Lions with 15 points and nine rebounds, followed by Brandon Gonzalez with 13 points along with a pair of rebounds and Von Julien tallied 12 points and recorded three rebounds. LaQuan Butler chipped in 10 points along with a solo rebound.
Led by head coach Donte Jackson, Grambling State (3-0) began the game with a dunk by Jackson who was assisted by Moss. The Tigers were then down by one point, 3-2, after a three-pointer by Gonzalez of Southeastern (1-2). Grambling State was then able to create a lead after a three-point shot by Gaston, followed by a layup by Jackson.
Throughout the majority of the first half Grambling State was able to hang onto their lead until the score was tied at 31 with 3:19 remaining.
Ivy Smith, Jr.'s free-throw broke the tie, but a jumper by Brewer gave Southeastern their first lead. The Lions' lead was short lived, as a three by Gaston gave Grambling State the upper hand with 1:51 left in the half. At halftime, Grambling State was up by four, 39-35.
For nearly two minutes in the beginning of the second half, Grambling State went on a 10-0 run against Southeastern, with more points recorded by Jackson, Smith, Gaston and
Travon Bunch. While Southeastern was able to close in on the gap between points and were only down by two with 6:21 left in regulation, Grambling State's offensive and defensive skills aided the Tigers in walking away with another victory.

* Grambling State was 47.3% (26-of-55) from the floor and 72.2% (26-of-36) from the free-throw line
* Southeastern shot 44.1% (26-of-59) from the floor and 60% (12-of-20) from the charity stripe
* The Tigers recorded 38 rebounds
* The Lions tallied 32 rebounds
* Grambling State finished with 15 bench points, 36 points in the paint, 22 points off turnovers, and 13 second-chance points
* Southeastern registered 22 points in the paint, 10 points off turnovers, seven second-chance points and 14 bench points
