Grambling produces 5 scorers in double figures in 82-54 victory over Rust

Tigers cruise past Rust for 2nd straight win

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling won its second straight game this week as the team produced five scorers in double figures en route to an 82-54 victory over Rust College at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. The Tigers were led by Devante Jackson who filled up the stat sheet and finished with a team-high 17 points, eight boards, three assists and one block.

Travon Bunch and Trevell Cunningham both finished with a double-double as Bunch scored 11 points and grabbed 10 boards. Cunningham nearly produced a double-double and generated 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

The Tigers struggled early in the game but found themselves up 42-25 at the break thanks to dominating the interior. Grambling scored 64 of its 82 points in the paint.

In the second half, the Tigers were on fire from the field, shooting over 60 percent from the field. Cameron Christon had a solid output and scored 15 points, four points and one steal while teammate Kelton Edwards missed only three shots on the night and finished with 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field.

Ivy Smith, Jr. chipped in with six points, six assists and three rebounds in the win.

Grambling State (6-5) scored 15 points off of turnovers while the Bearcats managed 11. The Tigers produced 18 second-chance points while holding Rust to only nine. 

Speedy guard Jordan Jackson led the Bearcats with 16 points as he hit 3-of-6 from downtown. Terrell Jennings added 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.

> Grambling State shot 56 percent (38-of-68) from the floor and 67 percent (4-of-6) from the charity stripe
> Rust was 18-of-59 (30 percent) from the field and 11-of-18 (61 percent) from the foul line
> GSU registered 49 rebounds, including 33 on the defensive glass
> Rust pulled down 27 rebounds, with 16 coming on the defensive end
> The Tigers finished with 64 points in the paint, 38 bench points, 18 second-chance points and 18 fast break points
> The Bearcats recorded 14 points in the paint, 14 bench points, nine second-chance points and 0 fast break points

Grambling State continues its non-conference schedule as it travels to Milwaukee to face Marquette University on Tuesday, December 17. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the  Fiserv Forum  in Wisconsin.
