Grambling drops 2 in FIU International Holiday Tournament
MIAMI, Fla. | The Grambling State Lady Tigers recently participated in two games at the 2019 Florida International University Holiday Tournament in Miami as the team winds down its non-conference schedule in preparation for conference play which begins in early January.

Game 1-Grambling-55    Florida International-56

The Lady Tigers came out the gate with a first quarter lead as Ariel Williams had the hot hand early. At halftime she was 4-of-5 from both the field and the free throw line, resulting in 12 first half points. Florida International answered back in the second quarter thanks to 13 first half free-throw attempts. The Lady Panthers held a slim 28-25 lead at the break. Both teams managed to score 19 points apiece in the third quarter, and the fourth quarter proved to be extremely tight stanza. Trailing by just one point with less than 20 seconds left, Grambling had a chance to take the lead with a basket, but Jasmine Forte's shot attempt was blocked by FIU's Cheyanne Daniels. However, she managed to turn the ball over which gave the Lady Tigers one last chance to take the lead with a bucket.

Justice Coleman, who had a red-hot second half with 13 points, missed on the potential game-winning shot with seven seconds remaining and the Lady Panthers grabbed the rebound and ran out the clock.

Williams finished with 18 points while Coleman finished with 15 in the loss.

Chelsea Guimaraes led Florida International with 15 points, eight boards, and hit 7-of-9 from the charity stripe in the win.

Game 2-Grambling-67    Binghamton-88

Binghamton led by seven points at the end of the first quarter and outscored Grambling in every quarter except the final stanza, when the Lady Tigers poured in 27 fourth quarter points, but it was too little too late as Binghamton held on for the 88-67 victory. Ariel Williams had another solid output for Grambling as she led all scorers with 26 points in the loss and made all 13 of her free throw attempts. Teammate Candice Paramore chipped in with 14 points and hit 10-of-12 free throws. Both players combined to shoot 92 percent from the charity stripe.

Grambling's Jasmine Forte dominated the glass and finished with a team-high 10 rebounds and added seven points while fellow Lady Tiger Alexus Holt generated seven points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Binghamton produced three scorers in double-figures including a team-high 23 points from Kai Moon. Annie Ramil finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 boards in the victory.
