BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State University women's tennis team fought hard on Wednesday, but could not defeat Xavier (La.) in a 4-1 loss.

In doubles play, Xavier picked up a win at No. 2, but the Lady Tigers tied the contest at 1 with a win at No. 3 as
Idah Longwe and
Danna Galeano defeated Lacee Ancar and Angela Charles-Alfred, 6-4. However, at No. 1, Xavier sealed the doubles point with a 6-2 victory.

In singles action, the Gold Nuggets completed the victory with wins at No. 5, No. 2 and No. 6.

Grambling State will open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play this weekend at the SWAC West Round-Up. The Lady Tigers play Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1 p.m.) on Friday, Prairie View A&M (1 p.m.) on Saturday and Jackson State (9 a.m.) on Sunday.
