Lady Tigers get back into win column

Hill becomes all-time GSU and SWAC record holder for career steals

PINE BLUFF, Ark. | On a night when Shakyla Hill became the all-time Grambling State University Women's Basketball and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) record holder for career steals, the Lady Tigers held off a late charge by Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a 67-57 victory on Saturday at H.O. Clemmons Arena.

Hill entered the day tied for career mark at 469 by former GSU standout Shiakiea Carter, but her first steal, just three minutes into the game, gave her the outright record.

Grambling State (13-14 overall, 10-5 SWAC) led 21-12 at the end of the first period and took a 36-24 advantage into the break. The Lady Tigers led 53-34 entering the final quarter.

Hill led the way offensively with a game-high 18 points, along with eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Camryn London came off the bench to provide 13 points, two steals and two boards, while Jazmin Boyd recorded 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.

Kye Richard paced Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 16 points, five steals, two rebounds and one assist. Trasity Totten added 10 points, four boards and one steal, while Kyeonia Harris tallied 10 points, eight boards, four steals and three assists.

Turning Point
Grambling State led 36-24 at the break, but a bucket by Mikeba Jones with 3:34 left in the third closed the gap to 40-33. However, the Lady Tigers responded with a 14-4 run over the final three minutes to take a 54-34 advantage into the final period.

A Jasmine Forte bucket with 8:30 remaining gave Grambling State its largest lead, 55-34.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff cut the margin to 65-57 after two free throws by Trasity Totten, but that would be as close as the Golden Lions would get.
