Box Score RUSTON, La l Chasity Nicks led the Grambling State University volleyball team with ten kills as the Lady Tigers picked up their first victory of the season against Tougaloo College in the Ruston High gymnasium.
Due to a power outage in the Grambling area, the match was moved from the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center to Ruston High School's gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers (1-3) defeated Tougaloo 25-9 and 25-10 in the first two sets. The Lady Bulldogs got as close as a 12-10 deficit in the third set but fell, 25-15.
Nicks led all players on offense with 10 kills on 17 attacks with two errors. Kalee Cadwell registered 12 assists, while Kabria Dame paced the defense with nine digs. Linzy Woods and Tamaria Johnson each had five blocks.
Tougaloo (1-2) was led by Kayelyn Salley on offense with six kills on 17 attacks hitting (.235). Jedda Alcee and Teriyana Tolbert tallied nine and eight assists respectively.
"Tonight was an opportunity for the team to find themselves," said Head Coach Demetria Keys-Johnson. "Their groove, their voice, their energy. For the most part they played well together and communicated. We still need to work on executing faster offensive plays and completing our cycles. Linzy Woods is playing very solid for us right now on both offense and defense. I have only positive expectations for this young team. Thanks for our fans who travel down I-20 to support us.
