Shooting woes get best of Lady Tigers in Baton Rouge

Grambling shoots 37 percent while opponents shoot 60 percent from field

Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. | Grambling struggled to find the basket early which resulted in the largest conference loss of the season with a 81-57 loss to Southern at the F. G. Clark Activity Center.

"It was a tough night for our team," said Coach Freddie Murray. "We did not execute at all."

In the opening quarter, Grambling (2-12, 1-2 SWAC) competed with Southern on both ends of the floor thanks to strong play from post-player Keturah Bingham who had eight points at halftime.

The Lady Jags maintained a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter then outscored the Lady Tigers 21-12 in the following quarter, giving them a 45-29 lead at the break. Throughout the game, Southern's press forced 14 Grambling turnovers.

Grambling produced two scorers in double-figures as Justice Coleman scored a team-high 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field while fellow Lady Tiger Mylashia Yancy generated 12 points, two rebounds and two steals in the loss. Coleman nailed 4-of-5 from the charity stripe while Yancy hit 3-of-5 from the foul line.

Southern's bench proved to be the difference in the game as they outscored Grambling's second unit 38-22. As a team Grambling shot 37 percent while Southern shot 60 percent from field.

The Lady Jaguars were led by Alyric Scott who finished with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. She also produced four assists, two steals and two rebounds while teammate Jaden Towner scored 19 points, burying all four of her 3-point attempts.
