Grambling snaps 9-game skid with 69-59 victory over Alcorn

Lady Tigers finish with 3 scorers in double-figures

Box Score GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team snapped what was a nine game losing streak in a 70-59 win against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Alcorn State University, on Monday night in the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Junior guard Justice Coleman led Grambling State on offense with 13 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Mylashia Yancy and Brandi Washington each tallied 12 points, respectively.

The Braves (9-14) were paced on offense by LaRae Rascoe McKinney as she tallied 21 points, three rebounds and two steals. Jada Hargrove registered 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Diamond Hall tallied a double-double, 10 points, 10 boards, two assists, three steals and one blocked shot.

Grambling State (3-19, 2-9 SWAC) led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers used a 13-0 run in the second quarter capped by a Mylashia Yancy jumper with 6:46 remaining to lead, 38-19, at the half.

Turning Point

Grambling State lead by 23 points, 48-25, after a Keturah Bingham jumper with 6:05 left in the third. The Braves got as close as an eight point deficit, trailing 59-51 with 4:06 remaining. 

 

Inside the Numbers

· Grambling State shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the floor and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free-throw line.

· Alcorn State was 21-of-63 shooting (33.3 percent) and 9-of-13 (71.4 percent) from the charity stripe.

· The Lady Tigers finished the night with 25 rebounds, including 21 on the defensive end.

· The Braves tailed 38 rebounds, including 17 off the defensive glass.

· Grambling State scored 24 points in the paint, 22 off turnovers and had 15 bench points.

· Alcorn tallied 24 points in the paint, 24 off turnovers and 31 bench points.

· There were no ties and three lead changes.
