Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Despite leading by eight points at the break, Grambling allowed the top ranked team in the conference to score nearly 50 second half points as the Tigers fell 75-69 to Prairie View A&M University at the William Nicks Building in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. The loss snaps the Tigers' 4-game win streak.
Grambling (13-12, 7-5 SWAC) went on an 8-0 run in the first half to get ahead early but never could get the lead to double digits. The Tigers produced a total of four scorers in double-figures, with senior point guard
Ivy Smith, Jr. leading the way with 17 points, 11 assists, two rebounds and two steals in a full 40 minutes of action while teammates
Cameron Christon and
Devante Jackson both generated 15 points apiece in the loss. Christon was nearly perfect all night as he hit 4-of-6 from the field, nailed 2-of-3 from downtown and made all five of his free throw attempts.
Grambling held a nine point lead early in the second half but could not find a way to slow down the high powered offensive attack from Prairie View A&M as they totaled 46 second half points to just 32 from Grambling.
Redshirt junior
Prince Moss was the final scorer in double-figures as he added 14 points and three rebounds while connecting on all six free throw attempts.
As a team, Grambling was uncharacteristically outrebounded 38-22. Despite the rebounding woes, the Tigers led nearly all night, maintaining the lead for over 24 minutes while Prairie View enjoyed the lead for just under 11 minutes.
The Panthers were led by Gerard Andrus and Antione Lister who finished with 21 points and 18 points respectively. Andrus was 11-of-12 from the foul line while Lister was 4-of-10 from downtown. Furthermore, Devonte Patterson was hard to stop all night as he finished with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 17 boards in the win.
