Team commits 28 turnovers in loss to TSU

Box Score HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambing State University women's basketball team committed 28 turnovers as they dropped a 85-62 contest to Texas Southern University at the H&PE Arena in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The game marks the second consecutive loss for the Lady Tigers.

Grambling (3-21, 2-11 SWAC) led by one point at the end of the opening quarter but then went ice cold in the second quarter as they shot 1-of-11 from the field, totaling just five points in the quarter. Grambling was led by junior guard Justice Coleman who finished with a team-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field to go along with eight rebounds in 34 minutes of action while fellow Lady Tiger Alexus Holt added 14 points, three assists, one rebound and one steal in the loss. Teammate Brandi Washington chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.

As a team Grambling could not protect the ball all night and committed 28 turnovers, but only missed two free throws on the night as they connected on 13-of-15 from the charity stripe.

Grambling post player Keturah Bingham added eight points and three boards in the loss.

 Texas Southern was led Niya Mitchell, Ciani Cryor and Richelle Velez who scored 22 points apiece in the win.

> Grambling State shot 47 percent (23-of-49) from the floor and 87 percent (13-of-15) from the charity stripe
> Texas Southern was 31-of-62 (50 percent) from the field and 15-of-23 (65 percent) from the foul line

The Lady Tigers continue conference play on Saturday, February 22 as they host Jackson State University. Tip-off against the Lady Tigers is set for 3 p.m. at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center in the first of two games of the SWAC doubleheader. The men's game will follow shortly after.
