GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season with a 1-0 overtime triumph over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Jackson State, on Friday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team could find the back of the net win the first 90 minutes of play, although both had big opportunities throughout the match.
- In the 50th minute, it looked like GSU (1-6-1 overall, 1-0 SWAC) had broken the scoreless tie when
Kamaron Powell's free kick bounced off the crossbar to a waiting Lady Tigers, who pounded the ball into the back of the net. However, the goal was disallowed because the goal scorer was in an offsides position.
- JSU (1-10-1, 0-2-1) nearly won the game as time expired in regulation as Ayanna Pinder hit the crossbar in the 90th minute.
- In the 92nd minute,
Lizbeth Aguero dashed JSU's hopes of victory with a long range golden goal from just outside the penalty area, that nipped the bottom of the crossbar on its way in.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Aguero's goal was her first of the season
- Quinian Warren played all 92 minutes in goal for GSU, registering six saves
- Tionna Taylor made four saves, surrendering one goal for JSU
- Grambling State finished with nine shots, including five on target
- Jackson State also added nine shots, with six on goal
- Both teams were also even on corner kick attempts (6)
- There were 34 total fouls

Kamaron Powell and Mackenzie Rastattler received yellow cards for GSU, while Tanagna Payne earned the yellow from JSU
- Grambling State is 1-2-1 this season in games played in overtime
