GRAMBLING, La. | Six different players scored goals as the Grambling State University women's soccer team notched its second shutout and victory of the season, claiming a 6-0 win over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival, Southern University, on Sunday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex.
Grambling State (2-6-1 overall, 2-0 SWAC) led 3-0 at the break and added three more goals in the second half to earn the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State leading goal scorer,
Kailey Pena, got the scoring started early when she headed home a cross from
Kaydeen Jack, giving GSU a 1-0 lead.
- In the 19th minute,
Haylee O'Leary scored her first goal of the season, giving GSU a 2-0 lead.

Laila Loring put the Lady Tigers up 3-0 in the 26th minute, scoring off of a corner kick by

Miranda Urbizu continued the onslaught with a goal in the 49th minute, stretching the GSU lead to 4-0
- In the 70th minute
Kennedy Moore extended the Lady Tigers' lead to 5-0.
- Jack rounded out the scoring in the 72nd minute, firing a shot that sailed past the outstretched Lady Jaguars' goalkeeper, inside the left post.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Quinian Warren played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Tigers
- Chioma Eriken tallied nine saves in 90 minutes for the Jaguars
- Grambling State registered 20 shots, with 15 on target
- Southern had three shots, none of which were on goal
- GSU held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks
- There were 29 total fouls and two yellow cards given
- GSU's six goals were the most scored since defeating Alcorn State 7-0 on Oct. 6, 2019
UP NEXT
The Lady Tigers return to action with a trip to Houston, Texas to face off against Texas Southern on Friday. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. at Alexander Durley Stadium.
