TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team played 17
th ranked Florida State tough, but ran out of gas in the second half, falling 76-53 at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Sunday afternoon.
Four Lady Tigers scored in double-figures, with GSU leading scorer
Alexus Holt leading the way with 13 points.
Justice Coleman contributed 12 points, while
Colbi Maples and
Jurnee McLaurin scored 11 and 10 respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State (2-2) jumped hot shooting from three-point range to surge ahead Florida State (4-0) in the opening quarter. Holt capped a 14-7 run, with back-to-back threes, giving the Lady Tigers 16-9 lead with 4:33 left in the frame.
- The Seminoles pushed ahead in the closing minutes of the frame, building a 24-18 lead. Trasity Totten connected from downtown with 16 seconds left, ending quarter with GSU trailing 24-21.
- In the second period, FSU jumped out to an 11-point lead (36-25) with 2:59 left. The Lady Tigers clawed their way back, pulling within four points (37-33) on a deep three by McLaurin with 1:57 to go.
- Maples splashed a mid-range jumper to end the first half, to keep GSU within striking distance at 40-35.
- Florida State opened the second half with a 13-0 run, crafting a comfortable 53-35 lead with 3:56 left in third. GSU was outscored 15-5 in the period.

- The Lady Tigers shot 18-of-56 from the field (32.1 percent)
- The Seminoles went 26-of-49 on field goal attempts (53.1 percent)
- Grambling State connected on 9-of-23 shots from three-point range (39.1 percent)
