Box Score WICHITA, KS. | The Grambling State women's basketball team suffered a 77-47 loss to Wichita State on Saturday afternoon at the Charles Koch Arena.
Cierra Ellington and
Justice Coleman paced the Lady Tigers offensively, both scoring in double-figures. Ellington contributed 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while Coleman posted a 10-point outing on 4-of-8 from the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 13-6 in the first quarter, Jurnee McLaurin sparked Grambling State's (2-6) offense with a three-pointer with 2:35 left. Colbi Maples kept the rhythm going from behind the arc splashing a three of her own to pull the Tigers within one, 13-12, with 1:44 to go in the opening period.
- Trasity Totten capped GSU's 8-0 run with a jumper at the 1:11 mark. The Lady Tigers carried a 14-13 lead heading into the second frame.
- Both teams traded buckets to open the second stanza. After Coleman drained a three-pointer to put the Lady Tigers up 19-17 with 7:56 left until halftime, GSU entered a 6:36 scoring drought as Wichita State (8-2) scored 18 unanswered points, building a 35-19 lead.
- Ellington knocked down a jumper to end the drought with 1:20 to go in the half. WSU led 37-21 at the break.
- GSU shot the ball better in the third quarter, shooting 50 percent on 5-of-10 shooting, but couldn't close the gap, trailing 58-34 heading into the final frame.
- The Shockers outscored the Lady Tigers 19-13 in the final period, sealing the 77-47 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Lady Tigers shot 20-of-60 from the field (33.3 percent)
- The Shockers went 30-of-61 on field goal attempts (49.2 percent)
- Grambling State connected on 6-of-23 shots from three-point range (26.1 percent)
- Wichita State drained 6-of-11 from behind the arc (54.5 percent)
- GSU hit on 14.3 percent of its free throws (1-of-7)
- WSU sank 11-of-15 attempts from the free-throw line (73.3 percent)
- Grambling State was outrebounded 45-31
- The Lady Tigers scored 13 points off of 19 turnovers
- The Shockers tallied 36 points on 21 turnovers
- WSU outscored GSU 19-6 in fast-break points
- Wichita State held a 32-11 advantage in bench points
- The Lady Tigers led the Shockers in second-chance points 13-9
- GSU was outscored 44-24 on points in the paint
