AJ Taylor notched a double-double as the Grambling State University men's basketball team dropped a tough road game to No. 17 Connecticut, 88-59, at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
Taylor registered 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Cameron Christon led the Tigers' scoring effort, racking up 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, with one assist and one rebound.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State (3-6) got on the board first with a jumper by
Danya Kingsby at the 19:00 mark.
- With GSU trailing 8-6 with 17:20 to go in the opening frame , UCONN (8-1) seized early momentum, reeling off a 9-0 run capped with a dunk by Andre Jackson to go up 17-6 with 14:55 left in the half.
- GSU battled back, however, as Christon drained a three pointer to whittle the Huskies lead to four, 19-15, with 13:06 to play in the period.
-The Huskies dominated the remainder of the first half, carrying a 47-30 lead into the break.
- UCONN maintained control throughout the second half, outscoring the Tigers 41-29 the rest of the way
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State shot 39.6 percent (21-for-53) from the floor and 70.6 percent (12-for-17) from the free-throw line
-The Tigers recorded 30 points in the paint, 15 bench points, nine points off of six Connecticut turnovers, four second-chance points and four fast-break points
-Connecticut shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field and 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the charity stripe
- RJ Cole led the way for the Huskies, posting 18 points, seven assists and five rebounds
- The Huskies tallied 36 points in the paint, 23 points off of 16 Grambling State turnovers, 27 bench points and 19 second-chance points

Grambling State continues its road trip with a visit to San Antonio, Texas to take on Incarnate Word. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at McDermott Center.
