Lady Tigers 2-game win streak snapped with 70-63 loss to Southern

GSU led by 7 after the 1st quarter before giving up 28 2nd quarter points

BATON ROUGE, La. | Grambling won four of its last five games before stumbling to Southern 70-63 at the F.G. Activity Clark Center in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. The Lady Tigers led 17-10 after the opening quarter before giving up 28 second quarter points.

Grambling (6-6 overall, 5-3 SWAC) was led by senior guard Alexus Holt who continued her sensational season campaign with a game-high 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. The Epps, La. native shot a commanding 8-of-10 from the charity stripe and dished out five assists, grabbed four boards, snagged three steals and had one block in 32 minutes of action for the Lady Tigers, who came within three points of the Lady Jags with 1:53 left to play after a Holt jumper, but couldn't close the gap any further.

Redshirt junior guard Leah Morrow chipped in with 11 points while senior guard Justice Coleman finished with a near double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing 12 boards for the Lady Tigers.

Junior guard Candice Parramore went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and finished with eight points and two rebounds, while junior center Jasmine Forte filled the stat sheet with eight points, six boards, three blocks and one assist before fouling out of the contest.

Southern (6-8 overall, 6-2 SWAC) produced a total of four scorers in double-figures, including Nakia Kincey who finished with 16 points in the win.

 

Inside the Numbers

> Grambling State was 18-of-39 (46 percent) shooting from the field and 26-of-31 (84 percent) from the charity stripe

> Southern shot 38 percent (20-of-53) from the field and 64 percent (25-of-39) from the free-throw line

> The Lady Tigers registered 37 rebounds, including 29 on the defensive glass

> The Lady Jags pulled down 18 rebounds, with seven coming on the offensive end

> GSU finished with 34 points in the paint, 10 bench points, eight fast-break points and 11 second-chance points

> SU registered 26 bench points, 28 points in the paint, 20 fast-break points and five second-chance points
