Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter run against Alabama A&M to win the first round of the 2021 Cricket Wireless Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball Tournament 58-50 on Thursday evening in the Bartow Arena.
"Today's game was a competitive game from start to finish," said Head Coach
Freddie Murray. Alabama A&M made some runs but our ladies were able to stay poised and stuck with our game plan to get us the win. We were able to pull away late in the fourth quarter getting some timely stops and executing on the offensive end."
Alexus Holt led Grambling State (10-9 overall, 8-6 SWAC) with a team-high 17 points and four rebounds, shooting 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, while her teammate
Ariel Williams registered a double double including 15 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Dariauna Lewis led Alabama A&M (10-7, 8-5) with a double-double featuring 21 points while pulling down a game-high 20 boards in the loss. The Lady Tigers won the turnover battle 22-8 and shot 20-of-27 (74.1 percent) from the charity stripe.
Grambling State will advance to the semifinals and take on No. 1 Jackson State on March 12 at the Bartow Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m CST.
