Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas | The Grambling State Tigers trailed by 10 points at the half before climbing back in the second half, but it wasn't enough as Prairie View came away with the 17-10 victory in the 2021 State Fair Classic at Globe Life Park.
"There have been times where we haven't played well, and there have been times where we played well and had mistakes, but there is no excuse for playing without passion," said Tigers head coach
Broderick Fobbs. "We have to figure it out quickly because this league is too good for us to just go through the motions."
Tigers (0-2 overall, 0-2 SWAC) quarterback
Geremy Hickbottom completed 11-of-16 passes for 113 yards and threw two interceptions while junior quarterback
Elijah Walker hit 7-of-9 targets for a total of 90 yards and had a 1-yard rushing touchdown that brought Grambling within one score late in the third quarter.
GSU running back Lyndemain Brooks led the ground attack with 63 yards while fellow running back CJ Russel rushed for 36 yards against a tough Panthers run defense that allowed just 2.3 yards per carry on the afternoon.
Redshirt junior
Kenan Fontenot led the Tigers defense with nine total tackles, including a team-high six solo tackles. However, the highlight of Grambling's defense came from junior
Reyondous Estes, who produced two turnovers, including a forced fumble and an interception.
