Down 2 sets to 0, Tiger volleyball roars back for thrilling 3-2 victory over TSU

HOUSTON, Texas | The Tigers rallied down two sets on the road before roaring back to win the next three sets as Grambling defeated Texas Southern 3-2 (15-25, 22-25, 25-19. 25-20, 15-13) in five sets at the HP&E Arena in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The win avenges an earlier loss at home to TSU in similar fashion as the team trailed by two sets before storming back to force a fifth and final set as they fell 3-2 in Grambling.

I'm proud of our team," said head coach Demetria Keys-Johnson. "We should have won the match back at Grambling, so to come here on the road in literally the same scenario, except to finish strong this time says a lot about our program. We battled through some key injuries, so I moved some folks around in different positions and they responded very well. We look to get back healthy with our full lineup soon so we can be ready for the SWAC tournament next week, Coach Johnson explained.

Grambling (6-7 overall, 5-5 SWAC) Senior Tess Reynolds was the lone Tiger to produce double-digit scoring as she finished with 11 kills and three block assists while senior teammate Linzy added seven kills and six block assists.

Tamaira Johnson chipped in with seven kills but negated those with eight hitting errors. However, she made up for it on the defensive end with seven block assists and four digs in the win. Sophomore setter Kalee Cadwell generated a team-high 17 assists for the Tigers, who improve to 5-5 in SWAC play and have a huge opportunity to knock off one of the top teams in the SWAC in its match on Monday night.
