BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced its 2021 Cricket Wireless SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament seedings featuring the league's top eight teams at the conclusion of regular season play.
2021 SWAC Regular Season Champion Jackson State enters the tournament as the #1 seed (14-1 SWAC) after defeating #2 seed Alabama State (14-3 SWAC) in the regular season finale for both teams.
Southern claimed the #3 seed (11-4 SWAC) in the tournament followed by #4 seed Grambling State (8-6 SWAC). Alabama A&M is the #5 seed (8-5 SWAC) followed by #6 seed Alcorn State (7-8 SWAC).
Grambling State and Alabama A&M finished the season tied in wins (8) but GSU claimed the #4 seed by virtue of owning the head-to-head tie breaker over Alabama A&M.
Texas Southern (4-8 SWAC) and Mississippi Valley State (2-13 SWAC) claimed the final two tournament bids and will enter the tournament as the #7 and #8 seeds respectively.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-13 SWAC), Prairie View A&M (2-11 SWAC) and Mississippi Valley State (2-13 SWAC) all finished the season tied in wins and winning percentage amongst each other, but MVSU claimed the #8 seed by virtue of the league's tie breaker policy which takes into account the tied teams in wins record against the highest seeded team proceeding downward (Alcorn State).
The 2021 Cricket Wireless SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament is scheduled to be played on March 10-13 at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
