Grambling, La | Grambling State baseball (11-19, 8-4 SWAC) dropped the series finale to Alabama State (16-17, 5-7 SWAC), 6-7, on Sunday afternoon at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
The Tigers broke through in the top of the fourth, scoring their first run in the frame after a single RBI by redshirt freshman
Ben Avila as they cut the deficit to 2-1. The G-men plated another run in the top of the fifth to tie the game 2-2 on a sacrifice fly RBI by redshirt sophomore
Gerald Nervis Jr. Alabama State answered with a three run inning in the bottom of the 7th and two runs in the bottom of the 8th to stretch their lead to 7-2. Grambling looked to rally back in the top of the 9th, but was only able to plate four runs in the inning to come up short 7-6 to Alabama State.
Quote from Coach Cooper
"We lost a tough one today. Those one run losses seem to hurt more than the others. We made some costly mistakes that allowed them to gain 90 feet and get in scoring position. It turned out to be the one run they needed today to secure the win. Other than that, we are moving on to Arkansas and Texas Southern."
