Pine Bluff, Ark | Grambling State
(10-13, 7-6 SWAC) completed the road series sweep over UAPB Monday afternoon, winning the series finale, 8-4. The series sweep marks the first sweep for the Grambling State softball team in a very long time.
The Lady Tigers tallied nine hits in the third game of the series to bring their weekend total to 28 versus UAPB. Grambling won game one 14-1 on Saturday before a 6-4 victory also on Saturday for game two. The Lady Tigers out scored the Lady Lions 28-9 over the series.
Grambling took its first lead of the day on an RBI single from
Anaiyah Fultz in the first inning that plated
Cameron Ellis and
India Wells. Fultz collected another RBI in the bottom of the fifth on a single to center field.
Kaylee Nettles walloped a two-RBI double to center field prior to a two-RBI single from
Dacia Richard to make it 7-2, Lady Tigers after five.
Fayth McQueary stretched the lead to 8-2 on an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th to secure the victory for the Lady Tigers.
"We played well on both sides of the ball," head coach Nakeya Hall said. "Our pitchers located the ball well and didn't give up a lot of hits. I'm proud of the way we played and look forward to carrying this momentum into our next conference series."
Inside The Numbers
- Grambling State finished with eight runs on nine hits, committed one error, and left six on base.
- Anaiyah Fultz led the Lady Tigers by going 2-3 with one run scored, and three RBI.
- India Wells, Tytianna Robinson, Asli Strozier, Kaylee Nettles, Fayth McQueary, Dacia Richard, and Rodjahnae Dupont-Barlow each had one hit.
- Ja'Lynn Bonner (2-5) started on the mound for the Lady Tigers and lasted 5.0 innings. She gave up two runs on four hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.
- Janecia King pitched in relief.
- UAPB finished with four runs on eight hits, committed two errors, and stranded seven on base.
- Samaria Jackson led the Lady Lions at the plate by going 2-4.
- Kirsten Schmidt (0-2) started for UAPB and went 7.0 innings. She gave up eight runs on nine hits, walked five, and struck out four.

Grambling State will return home to take on the University of Louisiana-Monroe tomorrow at the GSU Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
