Box Score LORMAN, Miss. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team started slow, but used a strong second half to pull away from Alcorn State, 65-41, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Monday night at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures.
Trasity Totten led the way for Grambling State (8-12 overall, 5-4 SWAC) with 19 points, six rebounds and one assist. Justice Coleman scored 14 points, two rebounds and two assists. Ariel Williams recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State took a 14-8 advantage into the second period
- Neither team shot the ball in the second quarter as the Lady Tigers led 21-12 at the half
- Alcorn State closed the margin to 21-17 after a free throw by Zn'Nyia White with 8:19 left in the third
- The Lady Tigers pushed the lead to 29-22 after a jumper by Justice Coleman with just over five minutes remaining
- Grambling State wasn't done as Alexus Holt gave the Lady Tigers a 39-22 advantage heading into the final quarter
- The Lady Braves closed the gap to 13 points (41-28) with 8:33 left, but never got any closer as the Lady Tigers got back into the win column
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the field and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free-throw line
- The Lady Tigers finished with 24 points in the paint, 24 points off 20 Alcorn State turnovers, 12 bench points, seven second-chance points and six fastbreak points
- Alcorn State shot2 8.6 percent (16-of-56) from the field and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the charity stripe
- Zn'Niya White registered 18 points and six rebounds for the Lady Braves
- The Lady Braves recorded 20 bench points, 19 points in the paint, six second-chance points, five points off 12 Grambling State turnovers and five fastbreak points

The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday against Alabama State. Tip-off against the Lady Hornets is set for noon on the Willis Reed Court at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
