GRAMBLING, La. | It has been six long weeks for the Grambling State University football program, but the time has come as the Tigers finally welcome their 2022 home opener on Saturday against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Florida A&M. Kickoff against the Rattlers is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. from Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium.

To put the 2022 season into comparison, Grambling State opened the year with six straight road games, spanning more than 4,196 miles, with the longest trip being a visit to Daytona Beach, Fla., to meet Bethune-Cookman.

Grambling State (1-5 overall, 0-3 SWAC) rallied from a touchdown down in the final seconds to force overtime last weekend at Alabama A&M. The Tigers scored on their first possession in the extra frame, but could not get back into the endzone in a double-overtime loss to the Bulldogs.

Florida A&M (4-2, 2-1) comes into the game riding a four-game winning streak after starting the year with losses to North Carolina and Jackson State. The Rattlers stepped out of conference play last week and held off South Carolina State, the defending HBCU National Champions, 20-14, in Orangeburg, S.C.

Saturday's game will be streamed live HBCU GO as Jon Kelley and Charlie Neal will have the call. Grambling State will broadcast and stream the game on the Grambling State Sports Radio Network. The game can be heard in Ruston and Dubach on the flagship station, The Peach (KPCH-99.3 FM), KNNW 103.1 FM in Columbia and Monroe and KEDG 106.9 FM in Alexandria and Pineville. The Tigers' broadcast crew of Ossie Clark and Chyelle Flowers will call all of the action.

Grambling State head coach Hue Jackson said the Tigers fought to the end and he was proud of their effort. In addition, he said the team is excited to be home this week after being "Road Warriors" for the past six weeks.

"I thought our football team battled extremely hard," Jackson said. "It was exciting to see all three phases contribute to the game, offensively, defensively and the special teams. There's still some areas we've got to clean up. To play a two-overtime game, on the road, was tough. We didn't get the result we wanted, but the games fought extremely hard and I was proud of them."
