GRAMBLING, La. | In a game that saw the Grambling State University women's soccer team string together multiple scoring opportunities, it took a late penalty kick to seal a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening half, Grambling State (7-7-3 overall, 4-1-3 SWAC) had numerous close calls at the net. In the 24th minute, Imogen Fowler sent a shot at goal that clanged off of the right woodwork. In the 30th minute, Beatriz Kretteis also missed off the right post. Both teams remained tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
- Alcorn State (4-8-2, 2-3-1) pushed ahead 1-0 on penalty kick in the 48th minute. GSU's Tanzanea Villacis was called for a foul in the box, giving the Braves the opportunity.
- Just as it seemed time would run out on the Lady Tigers, a foul on ASU inside the penalty area allowed Fowler to attempt a PK in the 84th minute. Fowler converted the shot, tying the game at 1-1 and preserving the tie.
